The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has announced that it struck two Hezbollah members in the village of Yater, southern Lebanon, killing one operative allegedly involved in efforts to rebuild the group’s military infrastructure.
Israel described the action as a violation of the November 2024 ceasefire understandings.
In a statement posted on X, the IDF said: “STRUCK: 2 Hezbollah terrorists in the area of Yater in southern Lebanon. As part of the strikes, the IDF eliminated a terrorist who was involved in attempts to rehabilitate Hezbollah military infrastructure in the area.”
According to military sources, this marks the fourth elimination in southern Lebanon in the past week. Lebanon’s Ministry of Public Health reported one person killed and another injured in the midday airstrike. Hezbollah has not commented or confirmed casualties.
The strike reveals a fragile implementation of the U.S.-brokered truce that ended intense fighting in late 2024. The agreement requires Hezbollah to withdraw fighters and weapons north of the Litani River, while Israeli forces gradually pull back. Both sides have accused each other of violations, with over 300 deaths reported since the ceasefire, mostly attributed to Israeli enforcement operations.
Lebanese officials, including Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, have stressed progress on disarmament south of the Litani. However, Israeli monitors claim Hezbollah continues rearmament attempts. The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) urged restraint and called for investigations into alleged breaches to preserve the accord.
As tensions simmer, international mediators are pressing for full compliance ahead of January 2026 deadlines for troop withdrawals.
